EDGE East Side – Office high-rise in Berlin featuring highly efficient solar control glass from Saint-Gobain Glass

The name and location could hardly be more striking: Project developer EDGE Technologies GmbH and the renowned architectural firm Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG) have realized EDGE East Side on Warschauer Straße in Berlin-Friedrichshain – an energy-efficient office high-rise designed and equipped with the latest technologies.

Conceived as a vertical campus, the tower pushes the boundaries in several respects: at 140 meters, it will become Berlin’s tallest office building. At the same time, it is designed to meet the highest standards of construction quality and sustainability. The project has already received DGNB Platinum precertification and is also aiming for WELL Gold certification from the International WELL Building Institute, which recognizes outstanding building quality in health and well-being.

Smart building solutions will also play a key role in enhancing user comfort and energy efficiency. The same goals are pursued with the façade design: a double-skin, ventilated aluminum façade with integrated solar shading and highly efficient solar control glazing CLIMATOP COOL-LITE XTREME 70/33 II and PLANITHERM XN. Technical performance values are equally compelling: a light transmission of 61%, a g-value of 30%, and a Ug-value of 0.6 W/m²K. The façade thus makes a vital contribution to the building’s outstanding overall performance.
