Bundesverband Flachglas: A Reliable Partner for the Industry
For more than three decades, the Bundesverband Flachglas (BF) has been the central voice of the flat glass industry in Germany – reliable, influential and well connected. Founded in 1987 in Troisdorf (North Rhine-Westphalia), the BF represents the interests of manufacturers, processors and refiners of flat glass – from small businesses to large industrial groups.
Our Objectives and Responsibilities
The BF focuses on three core areas of activity: standards and technology, political advocacy, and public relations & marketing.
⚙️ Standards and Technology
The BF develops industry standards through specialized working groups such as “Insulating Glass”, “Bird Protection Glass” and “Safety Glass”. In addition, it participates in standardization committees and drives research on sustainability and climate protection.
🏛️ Political Advocacyhttps://www.bundesverband-flachglas.de/en/working-groups/
Through the Representation of Transparent Building Envelopes (RTG) in Berlin, the BF is actively engaged in political and energy-related debates. It is also a partner of the Federation of German Industries (BDI) and the “Building Transition Alliance” of the German Energy Agency (dena).
📢 Public Relations and Marketing
The BF strengthens the visibility of the industry through press relations, brochures, newsletters, and active communication on social media (Instagram, LinkedIn BF and LinkedIn GGF).
Gütegemeinschaft Flachglas (GGF)
The Gütegemeinschaft Flachglas (GGF), affiliated with the BF, awards the RAL quality marks for insulating glass (MIG) and heat-soaked toughened safety glass (ESG-HF). These quality marks ensure a high level of transparency and reliability in the glass industry and set standards recognized well beyond Germany.
Making Sustainability Visible
Since 2025, the BF has been presenting the BF Sustainability Award to outstanding projects in the industry – a strong signal of responsibility and innovation.
A Strong Industry in a Dynamic Environment
The flat glass industry plays a key role in construction, energy efficiency and climate protection. Around 85 member companies – from small enterprises to corporate groups – as well as about 55 supporting members form the BF’s network. Together, we are committed to ensuring the industry’s future viability and competitiveness.
What guides us and how we work is set out in our Mission Statement. The BF Statutes form the legal foundation of our activities.
