In the production of toughened safety glass (TSG), quality assurance is a decisive factor – particularly when the glass is used in large façades. Since mid-2024, vandaglas Eckelt GmbH, based in Steyr, has integrated the Temper Scanner 5D from Viprotron into its TSG furnace. The system enables comprehensive optical inspection in real time, setting new standards in process control.

Among the first panes produced with this system are the triangular panels for the Glass Cliff at the Loreley Plateau. Commissioned by Frener + Reifer, the glass elements for this architectural highlight were manufactured at Eckelt to the highest quality specifications. By using the Temper Scanner 5D, full compliance with these demanding requirements could be ensured precisely and traceably.

Technology with Depth of Field

The Temper Scanner 5D operates with five simultaneously captured inspection channels. This allows optical distortions, anisotropies, haze, and surface irregularities to be detected precisely and quickly. The technology enables continuous monitoring of production quality while maintaining high line speeds.

“With five simultaneous inspection channels, we can detect more defects faster than ever before. This technology helps us avoid costly problems, especially in large-scale installations where even a single defective glass pane can cause significant delays and expenses,” explains Florian Temper, COO of vandaglas Eckelt.

A Project with Vision

The installation of the scanner at vandaglas Eckelt is a prime example of how modern inspection technology can lead to greater process reliability, efficiency, and customer satisfaction. The project symbolizes the shift toward data-driven production processes, where quality becomes measurable, visible, and controllable – in real time.
