Pilkington – Innovation from the NSG Group
In 2006, Pilkington was acquired by the NSG Group, the world’s leading supplier of glass and glazing systems. The group operates production sites worldwide and has sales activities in over 100 countries. The Architectural division produces and supplies glass for buildings, solar energy, and other applications.
Woodnest – A Glass Treehouse with a View
Around the world, Pilkington demonstrates what is possible with glass. In this “Project of the Month,” we present Woodnest.
Woodnest is an extraordinary treehouse located on the steep, forested hillsides of Odda in Norway. Designed by Norwegian architects Helen & Hard, the site consists of two treehouses, each accommodating four guests. Nestled in nature, the Woodnest treehouses feature electricity, a small kitchenette, high-speed Wi-Fi, a bathroom, and a shower. Each unit is equipped with underfloor heating, ensuring comfort during cold winter nights. The cabins, with windows facing in all directions, hang about five meters above the ground, suspended among the trees.
To ensure thermal comfort and energy efficiency, the windows were fitted with Pilkington Insulight™ Therm insulating glass units made from Pilkington Optifloat™ Clear combined with Pilkington Optitherm™ S3 low-emissivity glass.
For the large front-facing windows, Pilkington Insulight™ Protect insulating glass units were used, combining Pilkington Optifloat™ Clear with Pilkington Optilam™ Therm S3 laminated safety glass – offering both energy efficiency and occupant protection.
This video showcases the unique treehouse experience.
