At the same time, VELUX is dedicated to sustainable design, construction, and use of buildings. A prime example of this commitment is the innovative <em data-start=\"408\" data-end=\"423\">Living Places<\/em> project in Copenhagen, which demonstrates how more sustainable buildings can be constructed with a drastically reduced carbon footprint while also providing a healthy indoor climate.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"608\" data-end=\"1081\">The <em data-start=\"612\" data-end=\"627\">Living Places<\/em> project, developed by VELUX in collaboration with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.effekt.dk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">EFFEKT architects<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/de.arteliagroup.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Artelia engineers<\/a> and inaugurated in 2023, shows how homes with a significantly lower carbon footprint \u2013 three times lower than the Danish building standard \u2013 can be built using materials available today. These homes enhance well-being through improved indoor air quality and meet the requirements of Class 1, the highest standard of the Active House indoor climate classification.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1088\" data-end=\"1152\"><strong data-start=\"1088\" data-end=\"1152\">The Construction Industry and Its Role in Climate Protection<\/strong><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1154\" data-end=\"1609\">The construction industry accounts for approximately 34% of global energy consumption and 37% of worldwide CO2 emissions. According to the UN Climate Panel, the sector urgently needs to contribute to climate protection.
