The German Federal Association of Flat Glass (Bundesverband Flachglas \u2013 BF) has been the central voice of the flat glass industry in Germany for more than three decades \u2013 reliable, opinion-leading, and well connected. Founded in 1987 in Troisdorf (North Rhine-Westphalia), the association represents the interests of flat glass manufacturers, processors, and finishers \u2013 from medium-sized enterprises to large industrial groups.<\/p>\n
The BF is committed to advancing the industry in three key areas: standardization & technology, political advocacy, and public relations & marketing.<\/p>\n
The BF defines industry standards through specialized working groups such as \u201cInsulating Glass,\u201d \u201cBird Protection Glass,\u201d and \u201cSafety Glass.\u201d It also actively participates in national and international standardization committees and promotes research in sustainability and climate protection.<\/p>\n
Through the RTG (Representation for Transparent Building Envelopes) in Berlin, the association contributes to discussions on construction and energy policy. The BF is also a partner within the Federation of German Industries (BDI) and a member of the \u201cAlliance for Building Transformation\u201d (B\u00fcndnis Geb\u00e4udewende).<\/p>\n
The BF strengthens the visibility of the industry through press relations, brochures, newsletters, and social media activities (Instagram, LinkedIn BF, and LinkedIn GGF).<\/p>\n
The G\u00fctegemeinschaft Flachglas (GGF)<\/a>, affiliated with the BF, awards the RAL quality marks for insulating glass (MIG) and heat-soaked toughened safety glass (ESG-HF). These quality marks ensure a high level of transparency and reliability in the glass industry and set standards recognized well beyond Germany.<\/p>\n Since 2025, the BF has been presenting the BF Sustainability Award<\/a> to outstanding projects in the industry \u2013 a strong signal of responsibility and innovation.<\/p>\n The flat glass industry is a key player in construction, energy efficiency, and climate protection. The Bundesverband Flachglas represents around 70 member companies with approximately 140 production sites, as well as about 55 supporting members \u2013 ranging from specialized individual businesses to broadly positioned corporate groups.<\/p>\n They are united by their commitment to delivering architectural glass products of the highest quality, including thermal insulation glass, insulating glass with additional functionalities, acoustic glass, solar control glass, patterned glass, and safety glass.<\/p>\n Together, we stand for future viability, innovative strength, and the competitiveness of the industry.<\/p>\n What guides us and how we work is set out in our Mission Statement<\/strong><\/a>.
